I never thought I would actually finish this by my summertime deadline. But it's here finally and seems to be making it''s way through the blogsphere. I remember slumming around in my weekday job late spring wondering how to get out of my creative rut and light bulb shined above my head. Who is a music artist that is accessible to me who has no music videos for their project. I remembered shooting the album release party for Von Pea's solo album in 2010 and wondered why no video was ever shot for it. So I contacted him and offered to shoot something for free (meaning with no budget). I would finally get something to practice my final cut with and he would get a promotional piece.
Unfortunately, he chose a song with other people featured on it (which would benefit me in the editing processing as I had less padding to do). After a long drawn out pre-production period which included using a Google docs presentation as group with the only consistent idea being that it would all be shot at night and in my head would most likely be more of a performance video. Early June would begin a simple shoot that became a three night shoot stretched out over two months with me shooting b roll footage in-between. Part to blame was linking up with one person *cough (don't kill me man) and my 7-days-a-week-2-job-life.
Sure I wished I had been more creative with some of my shots and had more of a concept. But I'm glad it's out there to remind people of music they may have missed out on and talented artists who I am glad to have been documenting for so long.
Peace,
Richard Louissaint.
