The last days of summer: My mother just had surgery to remove a growth from her jaw area and part of her face was not moving as a result. My grandmother had just celebrated her 86th birthday and in two weeks time it she would leave us for good. And I attended my friend Dave’s annual BBQ after visiting my parents and all the kids chilling at the house who were children of family friends — my pretend cousins I suppose.
